Nigeria’s Super Eagles have received a great boost ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations draw ceremony, scheduled for Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Wednesday that the Super Eagles have been placed in Pot 1, alongside the continent’s top-ranked teams.
According to CAF, the teams in Pot 1 were selected based on the latest FIFA Rankings released on June 20, 2024.
The Super Eagles, currently ranked fifth in Africa, will be joined in Pot 1 by hosts Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, South Africa, Cameroon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The draw procedure will see 12 groups of four teams each (Group A to L) formed, with the top two teams from each group (excluding hosts Morocco’s group) qualifying for the tournament. The AFCON 2025 finals are scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
