A family of five and six other persons have been murdered by suspected Fulani militia in their farmlands at Waya, Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the attack occurred on Thursday. As of Friday, the area was still filled with tension.
Locals told newsmen that they became aware of the incident when relatives started raising alarm over the whereabouts of their loved ones who went to the farms and did not return home.
According to them, they searched and discovered dead bodies on farms.
“So far, 11 corpses had been recovered. As we speak, a search is still ongoing for more missing persons and there are indications that more bodies would be found,” a villager said.
Deadly clashes between nomadic Fulani herders and farmers over land, grazing and water have plagued parts of central Nigeria for years.
Nigeria’s security forces are battling on several fronts – a more than decade-long armed uprising in the northeast, criminal gangs in the northwest and a separatist militia in the southeast.
