Troops of the 37 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) have arrested three suspected gunrunners in Kaduna.
The suspected criminals were arrested along the Kauya – Old Afaka – Sabon Birni Road area in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State on Thursday.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert said the troops of the NDA Demonstration Battalion intercepted the suspected terrorists.
Makama said the suspects – Yakubu Jilbril, 45; Abubakar Yahaya, 45 and Isiya Sani, 30 – were driving in black Golf 4 Car with registration number Abuja YAB 385 K7 when they were arrested.
He noted that a large cache of arms and ammunition suspected to be meant for criminals in the bush was recovered by the troops.
“Items found in their possession include; quantity 9 AK 47 rifles, 384 quantity of 7.62mm (special) live rounds, 54 quantity of 5.56 x 45mm (NATO), 12 magazines, 4 GSM handset, 1 magazine carrier, 1 machete, some charms, tyre gums as well as the sum of Three Hundred and Sixty Five Thousand Naira cash among others.
“The suspects are presently under custody for further interrogation and investigation.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to assure law-abiding citizens that it will continue to deny terrorists and their sponsors freedom of action in order to enhance safety and security in Nigeria,” Makama wrote on X.
