A suspected vandal was electrocuted while attempting to steal electricity infrastructure belonging to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in the Asokoro area of Abuja.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that officers recovered the suspect’s lifeless body near step-down electricity lines at Yakubu Gowon Crescent on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, police operatives responded to a distress call and discovered tools used for the vandalization at the scene. However, an accomplice managed to escape before security personnel arrived.
Adeh issued a strong warning against vandalism, noting that the destruction of public infrastructure is a serious crime that will not be tolerated in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“Security operatives remain on high alert to apprehend perpetrators and ensure the protection of critical national assets,” she stated.
