Suspended EFCC Chairman, Bawa Moved To Private Facility From DSS HQ

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been relocated from the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters to a private facility.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the move was made in order to exert complete control over Bawa after he declined to provide any statements while in custody.

Last Wednesday, on June 21, 2023, Bawa had reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators at the secret police’s facility. He argued that the DSS had no legal grounds to detain him without pressing charges, thus justifying his refusal to provide any statements during his confinement.

However, on Tuesday, it was revealed that Bawa had been transferred from the DSS headquarters to one of their private facilities.

A reliable security source disclosed, “They’ve taken Bawa from the DSS headquarters to one of their private facilities to have total control over him after he refused to provide the requested statements.”

Bawa has been detained alongside Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, following their suspensions by President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Both officials have been implicated in corruption allegations and accusations of office abuse.

Thus far, Bawa has persistently declined to cooperate with DSS investigators, citing his objection to being detained without formal charges being filed against him.

“The detained EFCC chairman has refused to write statements; he told DSS they have no right to detain him without charges.

“He was also accused of shielding former Governor of Zamfara, Abdulaziz Yari, while helping him to hunt down his opponents,” a source had told SaharaReporters.

“So far since his detention, he has vehemently refused to cooperate with DSS investigators,” another top source had noted.
