Tanzania’s head coach, Adel Amrouche, has been fired following an eight-match suspension and a $10,000 fine from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Recall that the coach recently led his team to a 3-0 loss to Morocco in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, hosted in Ivory Coast.
In his post-match comments, Amrouche raised concerns about the alleged influence of Morocco in the match, going so far as to claim that North Africans handpick referees for their games.
“Morocco determines everything in African football, they also choose their referees. We remain spectators because they determine everything,” he said.
This led to the ban by CAF and a subsequent sack by the Tanzanian football body.
Tanzania’s next game in the tournament is against former champions Zambia in a Group F encounter on Sunday at 6 pm.
