Several officers of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, were injured on Friday following an attack by individuals suspected to be herdsmen in Akure, the state capital.
The incident occurred after Amotekun corps members arrested approximately 120 cows that allegedly destroyed farmlands in Osi and Igboba Communities in the North Local Government Area of the state.
According to sources, the Amotekun officers were transporting the arrested cows to the state headquarters of the Amotekun Command in Akure.
Upon reaching the Sango area of Akure, the herders, armed with dangerous weapons, intercepted the officers on the Akure-Ado expressway and launched an attack to prevent them from taking the cows away.
A viral video shows Amotekun officers firing shots into the air to disperse the attackers, while the injured officers were quickly taken to an Amotekun Hilux van for medical attention.
The Public Relations Officer of Ondo Amotekun, Jimoh Adeniken, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has commenced.
