Tension in Kaduna as tribunal delivers judgement on governorship election today

There is anxiety among party faithfuls and political players in Kaduna State as the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal prepares to deliver its judgement on the March 18 poll later today.

Politics Nigeria reports that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Isa Ashiru, had file a petition challenging the victory of Governor Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the election.

Ashiru through his counsel, Oluwole Iyamu (SAN), presented 24 witnesses to testify in the suit seeking to upturn Governor Sani’s victory.

The plaintiff alleged that: “We [PDP] were robbed of our victory and we are committed to reclaiming our stolen mandate as well as providing evidence to that effect while the case lasts.”

But Governor Sani, through his lead counsel and a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN) prayed the tribunal to dismiss Ashiru’s petition for lack of merit.

According to Uba in his final address through his counsel: “The petitioners had helped in proving he won the poll fair and square”.

The three-man tribunal led by Justice Victor Oviawe will be delivering judgement on the matter in a few hours from now.
