“Terribly Hopeless” – APC National Secretary Carpets Atiku and Obi’s Petitions Against Tinubu’s Victory

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed the petitions challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Basiru said the petitions are “hopeless” and that there is no need to waste time dismissing them.

He spoke on Sunday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

He said he has read the petitions and is familiar with electoral law in Nigeria, and that he believes the petitions have no merit.

Basiru also dismissed speculation that the APC is gearing up for a rerun election, saying that the party is confident in its victory and that it will not waste time on frivolous legal challenges.

From my knowledge of electoral law in Nigeria and having read the petitions and also being part of the proceedings, I would say that all the petitions against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election are hopeless and nobody needs to even waste time in dismissing same.

“They are hopeless petitions, terribly hopeless,” he said.

The petitions against Tinubu were filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP), among others. Both parties allege that there were irregularities in the election, but Basiru said that the APC has provided evidence to the court that the election was conducted fairly.
