A former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili has commended the lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for exhibiting strength since her travails at the Nigerian Senate.
Ezekwesili’s commendation comes shortly after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ordered the immediate recall of the lawmaker.
The court in its judgement on Friday ordered Akpoti-Uduaghan to resume her legislative duties at the National Assembly.
It also ruled that the six-month suspension imposed on the lawmaker by the Senate leadership is excessive and unconstitutional.
According to the court, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension contravenes Section 14(2) of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, which limits any legislative suspension to a maximum of 14 days.
In her reaction to the court’s decision, Ezekwesili wrote on X, “Distinguished. Senator. Natasha. Akpoti- Uduaghan. Congratulations!
“Today is a great Day to remind all of us of your unforgettable words: This Injustice will not be sustained.
“Thanks for modelling the strength of will that Citizens in a Democracy must possess to push back on abuse of power by those who occupy public positions,” Ezekwesili said.
The former minister also commended the lawmaker for her loyalty to her constituency.
She called on the Nigerian Senate to immediately do the needful as ordered by the court.
“Congratulations to your admirably loyal Kogi Central Senatorial Constituency who have been unconscionably and unconstitutionally been denied representation. Now the Nigerian Senate should swiftly right the wrong and injustice done to them. You inspire!” she added.
