’The gods kept Sunday Igboho in Benin Republic, and this is why…’ – Ogboni leader

Tajudeen Bakare, the leader of Ogboni group who was arrested in July during the Yoruba Nation rally in Ojota, Lagos, has said that popularly ethnic separatist, Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho is under the protection of the gods, reason he is still held in Benin Republic.

Three weeks after he was declared wanted by Nigeria’s secret police, the Benin Republic Police in July arrested Igboho at the airport. Igboho was trying to flee to Germany, days after going into hiding. Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS) had accused him of unlawful possession of firearms, and wanting to cause chaos in the country.

“It is the gods that kept Sunday Igboho in Cotonou, so that he will be safe,” Bakare said to BBC News Yoruba in a recent interview.

“My arrest and subsequent detention too was the doing of the gods – so that my life will not be cut short.

“That is why we are not keeping quiet; we are still pursuing Yoruba Nation.”
