Senator Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed openness to the possibility of former Edo state deputy governor Philip Shaibu joining the ruling party.
During an interactive session with journalists in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, Basiru emphasized that the APC operates as a free-entry and exit organization akin to a school, where the decision to admit or reject an applicant lies with the party leadership.
Basiru stated, “My approach is this: a political party is like a school; you cannot tell somebody that somebody should not be your classmate in the school. It is the proprietor of the school that will determine whether you should be admitted or not.
“When Shaibu applies to the relevant arm of the party, then the application will be taken and considered.
“A political party is a free entry and exit organization, and in politics, the more, the merrier, the more people you can bring to your doorstep.”
Regarding the upcoming elections in Ondo and Edo states, Basiru expressed confidence in APC’s prospects, citing the party’s success in winning two out of three senatorial seats in Edo state during the 2023 general elections.
He asserted, “We are confident that we are going to send Godwin Obaseki and his tea-drinking politicians out of Government house by the grace of God in the September 21 election.”
