Spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, on Tuesday bemoaned the “deeply-flawed” relationship between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to Baba-Ahmed, both FG and ASUU “constantly compete to be worse than the other in managing labour relations and in damaging public education”. He further criticised the apex government for its ‘irresponsibility’.
“There is something deeply-flawed about FGN-ASUU relations. They constantly compete to be worse than the other in managing labour relations and in damaging public education. FG is not responsible or accountable. ASUU cannot free itself from multiple negative images. Sadly, no mediators,” he wrote on his known Twitter handle.
It would be recalled that on Monday, ASUU declared a “comprehensive and total” strike.
The union said the strike, which takes effect from Monday, February 14, 2022, would last for an initial period of four weeks.
The union had expressed grievances over the failure of the Federal Government to fulfil some of the agreements it made as far back as 2009.
