Garba Shehu, a former aide to the late ex-president Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday said that the grave of his principal is being dug in preparation for his interment.
Shehu noted that Buhari’s remains are currently being dug in his compound in Daura, Katsina state in anticipation of the arrival of his remains from London.
The former president died in a London Hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82.
His body is being accompanied from London to Nigeria by the Vice President Kashim Shettima under the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in a short interview in Daura, Shehu said the order of programme for the funeral of the late president will be conducted by Katsina state and the Federal Government.
The digging of the grave is suspected to be done by members of the Daura community who are mostly close family relatives.
Shehu said, “The entire programme is in the hands of the Katsina state government and of course the Federal Government.
“As we have heard the governor say that the late president would be buried within his compound. They are digging his grace now. The body has left London at about 7.58; they have started coming and we are expecting them anytime after maybe six or seven hours,” the former presidential aide said.
