Governors from the Northern region of Nigeria have reacted to the killing of 34 people in Yobe State by members of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The governors under the umbrella of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) condemned the attack which occurred in Mafa, Tarmuwa LGA of state.
In a statement issued by the governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya who doubles chairman of the forum, the governors described the attack as a senseless act of violence.
Yahaya in the statement, signed by Ismaila Misilli his spokesperson, said the attack has inflicted immense grief on the affected families and communities.
He, however, commended the security forces for their ongoing efforts against remnants of the terrorist groups.
The governor also stressed the need for concerted efforts in tracking and apprehending those responsible for the atrocity and other criminals operating across the region.
He said, “This brutal act must not go unpunished. I urge security agencies to intensify their efforts to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.”
