‘This doesn’t represent the values we stand for’ – Northern Senators condemn Plateau attacks

Lawmakers under the umbrella of the Northern Senators Forum have condemned the recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State that has left over 50 people dead.

The senators said the attacks in five different communities in the LGA does not represent the value for which Nigeria and her people stand for.

In a statement issued by Abdulaziz Yar’adua, the chairman of the forum, the lawmakers said the attacks and killings are stark reminders of the insecurity that has plagued parts of Nigeria.

Stating that Nigerians cannot accept this as a norm, the lawmakers commiserated with the families of the victims of the attacks and the government of Plateau State.

Yar’adua said, “On behalf of the Northern Senators Forum, we hereby condemn in the strongest possible terms the recent attacks on five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

“The death toll, which has risen to about 50, with many more injured and missing, doesn’t represent the values we stand for as a nation. This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the insecurity that has plagued some parts of our nation, and we can not afford to let it become the new norm.

He also commended the governor of Plateau State for his ability to restore calm in the state while stating that the Forum is committed to working with the government as security agencies to develop a framework that protect lives and property of Nigerians across the region.

“This recent attack is a wake-up call for all Nigerians. We must come together to build a safer, more secure future for ourselves and future generations. We owe it to the victims of these senseless attacks to act decisively and ensure that such incidents do not recur,” he added.
