Ali Ndume, the senator representing Borno South Senatorial District at the Nigerian Senate has said that the move by the United States government to stop humanitarian funding in Nigeria is a good opportunity for the nation.
He said this while reacting to US congressman, Scott Perry’s allegation that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is been used as a conduit for sponsoring terrorists organisations like Boko Haram in Nigeria.
Speaking on Arise News programme on Wednesday, the lawmaker said the operations of USAID in Nigeria has remained suspicious.
A former chief whip of the Senate, Ndume described Congressman Perry’s allegations as grave and a confirmation of warnings issued by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
General Musa had earlier alleged that Boko Haram terrorists were being trained and funded by international organisations across the conflict areas in Nigeria.
Speaking further, Ndume stated that operations of the United States government should be thoroughly investigated by the federal authorities.
His words, “They come under the pretense of helping when you are in dire need so you don’t have the right to question any suspicions. Stopping their funding is our opportunity to investigate.
“Security agencies or the federal government do not have the backing or right to question the activities of international organisations,” Ndume stated.
