Three killed as cult clashes escalate in Delta state ahead of local council elections

The Vice President of Mosogar Reformed Youth Association, Godwin Ogberahwe, known as “Last Don,” was among three individuals shot dead in the community within the last six days, in what is suspected to be a cult rivalry.

The other victims were identified as Efe Oki and an individual whose identity could not be ascertained.

The killings are believed to be connected to either the forthcoming election rerun in the Local Government council by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or the election of the president for the community youth body.

Godwin Ogberahwe had reportedly survived a gunshot earlier in January before being shot again on Sunday.

The Mosogar community in Ethiope West Local Government Area (LGA) is home to the Delta State College of Physical Education and the residence of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Chief Ighoyota Amori.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the deaths, attributing them to a suspected cult clash between the Eiye and Arobaga cult groups.

He said the police are investigating the incidents to arrest those responsible for the violence.
