Three ritual killers have been sentenced to death by hanging, the Ogun State government has said.
The convicted killers – Mustakeem Balogun and Soliudeen Majekodunmi were sentenced to death by hanging, while Lukmon Abdulgafar received a life sentence.
In a statement issued by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade the killers’ conviction was secured in the Kugba area of Abeokuta.
Ogungbade said such convictions and punishment have become necessary following the incessant practice of human ritualism.
According to him, handing such sentencing to criminals in that category will help curtail and possibly eradicate the practice.
Ogungbade also stated that the three convicts will be made to face the full wrath of the law following their gruesome act of killing Sofia Okeowo.
The convicted criminals were said to have been arrested after killing their victim on January 28th, 2022.
It was gathered that Mustakeem Balogun lured the late 16-year-old Sofia to have canal knowledge of her and later strangled her in preparation for a premeditated money ritual.
Ogungba noted that the Ogun State government is committed to ensuring that criminals lack the environment needed to perpetrate their dastardly acts.
He also noted that this conviction will serve as a deterrent to other ritualists operating or intending to operate in the state.
