A planned celebration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Supreme Court victory in Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State, was disrupted as alleged vandals targeted the initial venue.
Youths, some claiming to act on the council chairman’s orders, damaged canopies and chairs, forcing organisers to relocate the event.
Despite the disruption, the rally took place at a new location, attracting a sizable crowd that included past and present lawmakers, commissioners, and the governor’s representative. Local council chairman Hope Ikiriko appeared at the event, denying involvement in the vandalism but urged supporters to maintain peace.
Meanwhile, Sokari Goodboy, leader of Governor Fubara’s supporters in Ahoada West, called on the presidency and police to investigate the “provocative action.” Evans Bipi, the governor’s representative, advised the crowd not to be swayed by rumours of suspension from the PDP or other threats.
The rally also witnessed defections from opposition parties, with individuals declaring their support for Governor Fubara and the PDP.
