Timwus Mathias dies at 73 [PHOTOS]

A veteran broadcaster, Timwus Mathias, is dead.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Mathias died on Friday in Yola, Adamawa State capital, following a protracted illness. He was 73.

He only recently came out of a five-week coma in August.

Late Mathias was a prominent face on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) back in the day.

Popularly called Uncle T, Mathias was also a columnist and media consultant.

The deceased is survived by his wife, three sons, and one daughter.

Reacting to the journalist’s death, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State said in a statement sent to this newspaper: “We will forever cherish Chief Mathias’ oratory and comportment on television as well as his commitment to the service of our beloved State and Country.

“His diligence and skills earned him the recognition of the NTA Yola station named after him.

“He was the most-preferred compere at national events.”
