Tinubu approves 2024 national honours awards programme

President Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of the 2024 National Honours Awards, which will celebrate Nigerians and friends of Nigeria for their contributions to national development.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo, during a meeting with ministry management staff in Abuja on Tuesday, September 10.

Jisalo revealed that the federal government is committed to honouring Nigerians who have excelled in their fields.

He urged the public to watch for nomination calls and put forward individuals who have significantly impacted the country.

The minister emphasised that the nomination process is free of charge and warned the public to avoid paying for the honour.

“The forms and processes leading to the award of national honours are free of charge,” Jisalo stated, cautioning the public to be wary of any attempts to exploit the awards system for financial gain.

He added that the National Honours Awards Act of 2004 governs the process, which took retrospective effect from 1963.

With Tinubu’s approval, the awards aim to uphold the nation’s values by celebrating excellence and dedication among its citizens and international friends.

The public is encouraged to participate in the nomination process to ensure deserving individuals are recognised.
