President Bola Tinubu on Thursday hosted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara to a peace talk.
The president’s meeting with Wike and Fubara comes barely three months after he suspended the latter and declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
The present’s declaration followed a growing political crisis in the state between supporters of both politicians.
However, at a reconciliation meeting on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, the president brought together all the top political parties involved in or affected by the state crisis.
Bayo Onanuga, an aide to the president, said in a video post on X that the meeting had the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, and all other lawmakers from the state in attendance.
According to Onanuga, the presisent had a closed-door meeting with the parties involved.
He said, “President Bola Tinubu hosted a reconciliation meeting on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing together all the figures in the Rivers State political crisis.
“Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and other Rivers State Assembly members attended the closed-door session,” Onanuga noted.
