In response to widespread rumours suggesting that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is seeking an appointment from President Bola Tinubu, the former governor has categorically denied such claims.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Governor Wike, a member of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), addressed the speculation during a recent interview with BBC Pidgin.
The rumour mill went into overdrive after Governor Wike was seen meeting with former Delta State governor James Ibori and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Friday.
Governor Makinde and Wike, despite their affiliation with the PDP, are considered allies of President Tinubu and were instrumental in supporting his successful presidential campaign in the February 25 elections.
However, Governor Wike, who currently holds no political appointment, dismissed the rumours during the interview.
In a video capturing his animated response, he swiftly addressed questions regarding his future plans.
When asked about his next career move, Governor Wike responded emphatically, “I wan go rest” (I want to go and rest). He made it clear that he has no immediate plans for political appointments or engagements.
Furthermore, when questioned about any potential involvement at the federal level and a possible appointment from President Tinubu, Governor Wike swiftly replied that no such offer has been made.
He urged people to exercise caution and resist the temptation to give credence to unfounded rumours circulating on social media.
