“Tinubu is not anti-north” – VP Shettima replies president’s critics

Vice President Kashim Shettima has refuted allegations that President Bola Tinubu is working against the interests of northerners in Nigeria.

Shettima spoke on Wednesday in Kano while receiving a federal government delegation led by the chief of staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila, on a condolence visit over the death of his mother-in-law, Maryam Abubakar.

The vice president cited the appointment of the two defence ministers, the defence chief, and the chairman of the Police Service Commission, among others, all from the North, as evidence of the president’s commitment to the region’s growth.

He said, “At an appropriate time we will lay out facts that the President is not against the North as being championed by some disgruntled elements, who always want to cause disaffection between government and the citizens.”

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s efforts to make Nigeria great, emphasising that governance transcends political party affiliations.

He stressed that the country’s unity and progress were more important than party differences.

According to him, the country had moved beyond politics and was now engaged in governance, emphasising the need for collective efforts to achieve greatness.

Tinubu has been criticised recently by many political commentators in northern Nigeria for abandoning the region.
