‘Tinubu is our own’ – Edo governor drums support for president’s second term

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, says President Bola Tinubu deserves a second term in office, insisting that his re-election bid in 2027 is non-negotiable.

Speaking in Benin during a visit by the South-south Monarchs’ Forum to the Government House, Okpebholo called on traditional rulers in the region to unite in support of Tinubu’s administration and re-election ambition.

His words: “South-south zone should speak with one voice, because we have our son as the president, and we all must speak with one voice to return him in 2027, to complete his tenure.

“President Tinubu has done so much for this country, and there are bold steps and decisions he has taken to put the nation on the path of development and growth.”

He praised Tinubu’s economic and tax reforms, noting that they have helped boost state allocations and improved government capacity to execute developmental projects.

“The president is blocking leakages in the economy and making sure that resources are channelled towards the betterment of Nigerians,” he added.

Okpebholo emphasised the vital role of traditional rulers in driving national development and securing communities.

He said: “The development of our nation cannot be achieved without the active support of our royal fathers.

“Traditional rulers are at the grassroots. They know the problems in the communities and help make things work. Their contributions are essential and must be respected.”

He called for closer collaboration between traditional institutions and the government in the fight against insecurity, saying: “We have strangers coming into our communities, and our traditional rulers must help us monitor and expose bad elements. Information is key.”

Okpebholo also pledged to engage other southern governors to preserve the relevance and dignity of traditional institutions.
