Tinubu Moves To Stop Planned Protest, Directs Ministers To Visit States, Plans Nationwide Broadcast

In a bid to stop the planned nationwide protest by Nigerians, President Bola Tinubu has directed all federal ministers to visit their respective states between July 24 and August 1.

This move comes as a planned 10-day protest, slated for August 1-10, draws near.

The protest, intended to condemn bad governance occasioned by the rising cost of inflation, has gained significant attention on social media.

Politics Nigeria reports that an emergency meeting was held between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and all ministers in Abuja on Wednesday morning.

Among other recommendations, the meeting discussed a planned national broadcast by President Tinubu.

Journalists were denied entry to the SGF Conference Room, the venue of the closed-door meeting, however, informed sources disclosed details of the discussion.

“All ministers were present. They suggested that there should be a national address. It was suggested that the President himself should do it. But the suggestion will have to reach the President first.

“They also asked ministers to put together three key achievements they have made in the past year. They will compile these achievements and present them to Nigerians.

“In fact, tomorrow (today), the Minister of Finance will be briefing the media on the state of the economy. But those achievements will be compiled for a separate presentation.”

“The government stands for dialogue. They will get the leaders (of the protest) to meet with the government for discussions.

“All the ministers will also go back to their states to engage their people so they won’t be misled into joining the protests. That is between now and the protest date.

“Some have been engaging their people before. But this time, everyone has been asked to go back there,” a source told The Punch Newspaper.

Some ministers are expected to join state governors at the 143rd session of the National Economic Council, scheduled to hold at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja on Thursday (today).

  1. Nigeria most protest soo that this country changed Bad Government Bad senator in this country called Nigeria revolution we need

  2. D irony of it all is dat some of d Ministers don’t have grassroot base.
    They are Abuja/Media politicians.

  3. The protest will still go on if nothing changes before the deal date. Nigeria have suffered enough, we sat no to bad government.

  4. The protest will still go on if nothing changes before the deal date. Nigeria have suffered enough, we say no to bad government.

  5. Are you sure of your remains after protests or you don’t know a large protest normally lead to war.

  6. The point they are still missing is that; we’re tired of being talked to. You don’t need to tell a hungry man stories that he/she is already tired of.
That being said, if I were Mr President, I will now realize that this might be ELASTIC LIMITS that we were all waiting for and that words won’t solve anything right now.
    If I were Mr President:
    1. I will pay salary of July this week

    2. I will activate the salary incremental promise with this July salary, with January -June, 2024 arrears.

    3. I will pay wage award backlog ( March – July) this week

    4. I will clearly states when new minimum wage payments will start( like August, 2024 salary)

    5. I will commit myself with the promise of paying the minimum wage with arrears.

    6. Lastly, I will make an appeal calls after achieving all these this week.

    Now, this is my take:
    — The protest leaders will comply with the president if all these happens in July, least it will be seen as harboring another agenda.
    — Salary earners are mostly their family’s bread winners and they are being listened to by the hungry family members that will be on the street for the protest.
    — If Mr President makes commitment like ” if I don’t fulfill my promise(s) of new minimum wage, etc payments with all the arrears in August or thereabout depending his words, then do everything you can because I have failed you.
    — No tongue in the cheeks promises.
I think I am writing too much for comment session.
In summary, activate a realistic action(s) good enough to make the prosters believe you before protest day one ( August 1st) and don’t leave it till the dying minutes like July 31st before it’s done.
    Act now now now. #quick#action#against#hunger#to#avoid#PROTEST.
A stitch in time they says saves mine.
    … gateman, cleaner N35k x 5(mar-Jul)
    … 25% salary increment x6(jan-jun)
… A better salary in July.
Imagining all these will do the magic.
I doubt if they will be protest if all these happens right now. This is because the heart will start melting before ‘The Proposed August 1st ‘ .

  7. Prior to 2023 elections, I had a dream: In that dream I saw a mighty bridge built between Iragbiji (Tinubu’s hometown) in Osun State and my hometown Ada also in Osun State. But alas! The bridge was in- completed When I woke up, despite all the uncertainties surrounding Tinubu’s nomination & candidacy then , I knew & I told people who are close to me that Tinubu might eventually win his party ‘s nomination. Which he eventually did off course but the challenge there is that he might not complete his tenure except he is prayerful and careful. He hasn’t done well at all. He should remember that Buhari never wanted to hand over to him because of the northern grip on power & his own (Tinubu) antecedent – A bullion ban politrician! So him gotten to that position of authority and the first announcement is to remove subsidy without fixing the refineries was the worse idea of the century. Giving the proceed of the same subsidy removal to governors and LG chairs is nothing but an avenue to foster the already fostered corruption. He claimed some fat cats who are powerful than the state collect subsidy money & chopsidized (chop) it without importing anything. Ok. Why can’t those enemies of the state be prosecuted? He should not allow bootlickers (Agbero politicians) from Lagos to lure him to his downfall by telling him that nothing dey happen. Nigeria’ns are sufferng! Let’s see if history will be kind to him.

  8. My take is that no civilian president and the cabinets , National assembly, reps that have good plan for Nigerian citizens, only for Thier own an siblings, as for me I want military to take over at list 6 yrs return to back to civil. Secondly, let our election be 6yrs only once tenure, as per protest let go on block airport, market, bank, Electricity , water ways, nation wide, from there all elected people , gov’t official ( top ) should know that we are d one elect them
