
President Bola Tinubu has constituted a reconciliation committee to address the internal crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue state.
The president appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, as chairman of the committee.
Other members of the committee are Hon. Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe state; Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara; Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, former speaker of the House of Representatives; and Ibrahim Masari, senior special assistant to the president on political matters.
Jake Dan-Azumi, Chief of Staff to the Speaker, will serve as secretary of the committee, while Abdullahi Gashua, Chief of Staff to the Yobe state governor, will be part of the secretariat.
The committee is mandated to resolve the factional crisis within the APC in Benue by identifying the root causes of disunity and engaging critical stakeholders and party organs to foster reconciliation.
It is also expected to propose structural, procedural and strategic reforms aimed at achieving lasting peace and political cohesion within the party.
The committee will submit a comprehensive report with recommendations to the president after concluding its assignment.
It is expected to commence work immediately by consulting widely with relevant stakeholders in the state.
