Dr. Sam Amadi, the Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has criticised Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for announcing a public holiday in honour of the visit of President-elect, Bola Tinubu.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to Amadi, Wike’s decision was based on a misconception that the President-elect is an official position. He added that Tinubu’s visit cannot be considered official.
In a tweet posted on Tuesday, Amadi expressed his disagreement with Wike’s declaration of Wednesday, May 3, as a public holiday for the people to receive Tinubu.
The Governor’s announcement came ahead of Tinubu’s visit to commission various projects in the State, including a flyover at Rumuokwuta and Rumuola junction in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and a Magistrate Court complex at the Moscow Road in the Port-Harcourt City Local Government Area.
Amadi wrote, “Governor Wike probably thinks ‘President-elect’ is an official position. The visit of @officialABAT cannot be an ‘official’ visit. It is so painful that leaders would degrade statecraft with pedestrian actions.
“If you degrade language, you degrade leadership, ala George Orwell.”
