The Delta Obedient Elders’ Council has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent address to the nation, accusing him of being out of touch with the current realities faced by Nigerians.
The council, led by Chairman Chris Biose and Secretary Solomon Akeni, released a statement on Wednesday condemning the President’s speech as inadequate in addressing the pressing issues highlighted by the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests.
The council expressed disappointment that President Tinubu’s address did not offer any new policy measures to respond to the protesters’ demands.
They also criticized the President for acknowledging the severe suffering of the masses without presenting concrete solutions.
“There was a noticeable absence of fresh policy measures to address the core issues affecting the nation.
“While the President recognized the suffering of the people, he failed to address the root causes, such as the widespread violence against farmers by armed Fulani herdsmen, which has had a detrimental effect on food production,” the statement read.
The elders also expressed concerns about the government’s spending priorities, noting that excessive expenditure on frivolous items has persisted while Nigerians endure severe hunger and economic hardship.
The council pointed to the President’s silence on critical issues such as oil theft and police brutality, which they believe contribute to the widespread discontent.
The Delta Obedient Elders’ Council called for a more responsive and accountable approach from the President to effectively address the nation’s urgent issues.
They urged the government to move beyond mere rhetoric and take substantive actions to alleviate the suffering of the Nigerian people.
