Tinubu’s Phone Call: DSS Speaks on Invitation, Alleged Arrest of Senator Yari

Amid what has been regarded as speculations and unconfirmed reports, the Department of State Services (DSS) has made it clear that it never invited nor arrested Abdulaziz Yari, senator representing Zamfara West, over his alleged refusal to respond to President Bola Tinubu’s phone calls.

The rebuttal is contained n a statement released on Sunday, July 9, by Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesperson.

Afunanya, in the statement, mentioned that Senator Yari knows why the DSS invited him and dismissed the viral online report about his arrest as “laughable and petty”.

Afunanya also denied the claims that DSS operatives “carted away” all incriminating files linked to Tinubu and his close aides from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The DSS spokesperson said: “To set the records straight, the DSS did not execute operations of any kind at the ICPC and CCB or remove files from their offices.

“Instructively, the two agencies have, on their own, refuted the news in widely circulated press statements.

“It is petty, if not laughable, to report that Yari was invited for refusing to pick the president’s call. This is the height of junk journalism. Yari knows why he was invited.

“In fact, the service denies all the allegations as they lack any factual basis or credibility. They are only figments of the creators’ imaginations.”
