Olufemi Adegoke, Chairman, Steering Committee, Yoruba Summit Group, has said Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, an agitator for a Yoruba nation, is using wrong methods to demand self-determination.
In a video interview with BBC News Yoruba, published on Monday, Adegoke said Igboho should have applied wisdom.
“A person cannot single-handedly fight for secession. It is impossible,” Adegoke said speaking in Yoruba language.
“In truth, Sunday Igboho is a warrior. His agitations were a sort of wake-up call to youths because he was airing our grievances. But that is not the proper way to ask for sovereignty.
“We won’t use weapons. It is through wisdom.
“Those pushing him led him to zealotry. But there is nothing wrong in the way he fled Nigeria.”
Sunday Igboho, arrested weeks ago in the Republic of Benin, is facing proceedings in the neighbouring country.
He had been declared wanted in Nigeria by the Department of State Services (DSS) – for stockpiling arms.
