A road accident at Abule Panu before Ose Bridge, on Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State on Saturday, December 18, has left 13 people dead.
Reports said that the only surviving passenger in the ill-fated accident was left with severe injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the road crash occurred at about 10.14 am killing the passengers on the spot.
The incident was said to have happened after two buses had a head-on collision on the said road.
Sources said one of the buses was coming from the Ikare axis when its tyre busted and it then lost control.
It was after that that the vehicle lost control leading to a head-on collision with the other bus which was loaded with fabrics.
Speaking on the incident, the Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ibitoye Samuel, the accident affected a total of 14 people but only one person survived.
He said: “Immediately after the collision, the two buses went up in flames. The men of FRSC, Police and Fire Service were swiftly at the crash scene for rescue.
“The injured victim was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owo while the dead ones were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
“Drivers are advised to exercise patience on the roads and passionately maintain their vehicles while passengers are encouraged to speak out against dangerous driving because road safety is a concern of all,” Samuel said.
