Travelers Stranded as Bridge Connecting, Imo/Abia Collapses

Bridge connecting Imo/Abi collapses

Several motorists and travellers plying the Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia road have been left stranded and frustrated following the unpalatable experience they had while plying the route.

The Okitankwo River bridge connecting Imo and Abia states at Emekukwu in the Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State has collapsed, leaving travellers quite disappointed.

Politics Nigeria gathered that the bridge, which is under construction along the Owerri-Umuahia road, collapsed as a result of heavy rainfall.

The heavy downpour was said to have started early on Thursday morning, causing many residents of Owerri and its environs to stay indoors.

Daily Trust reports that one of the stranded passengers, who simply identified herself as Nkechi, said that a bus with many passengers narrowly escaped from being submerged in the flood.

Nkechi said that passengers had to alight from their vehicles to continue their journey.
