The Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by the Action Alliance (AA) challenging the declaration of Ahmadu Fintiri as the winner of the April 16 governorship election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the petitioner, AA, officially withdrew the petition during a pre-hearing sitting in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, on Friday.
The AA had challenged Fintiri’s victory on the grounds of alleged electoral irregularities. However, the party withdrew the petition after reaching an out-of-court settlement with Fintiri’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The dismissal of the AA’s petition leaves only two other petitions challenging Fintiri’s victory. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidate, Dr. Umar Ardo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani Dahiru, have both filed petitions against Fintiri’s victory.
The SDP’s case is still pending, while the APC’s case is scheduled to resume on July 21, 2023.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Fintiri the winner of the April 16 governorship election after a supplementary election was held in some parts of the state. Fintiri defeated Binani in the supplementary election, securing 430,861 votes to Binani’s 398,738 votes.
