Tribunal judgement: Labour Party reveals next line of action

The Labour Party has vowed to continue their legal battle by appealing the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal verdict.

The party said it would take the matter to the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court, in their quest for a favourable outcome.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, in a unanimous decision on Wednesday, dismissed the petition filed by Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and their parties, stating that it lacked merit. Consequently, the tribunal upheld the election victory of President Bola Tinubu.

Justice Haruna Tsammani, along with Justices Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Stephen Adah, Moses Ugo, and Abba Mohammed, collectively delivered the verdict as the tribunal panel members.

Speaking to journalists after the judgement, the Legal Adviser to the Labour Party, Kehinde Edun, said the judgement by the tribunal would be further addressed at the apex court.

Edun described the judgement as strange because the tribunal knocked out the evidence of 10 of 13 witnesses in the LP’s case.

“There are some things that are unacceptable to us. So we need to see what the apex court has to say to this. We have to address this, not only for today but for the sake of our jurisprudence.

“We want to see what the judges at the Supreme Court will say about all these. It is so important to do this for the sake of tomorrow,” he said.

Similarly, the Head of media and communications of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Diran Onifade, confirmed that the party would appeal the judgement.

When asked what the next line of action would be, Diran said, “We are appealing the judgement”.
