The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed by Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress, APC, challenging the victory of Senator Abba Moro of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Benue South District Senatorial election.
Politics Nigeria understands that the tribunal was presided over by Justice Ory Zik-Ikeorha on Sunday, September 10.
The Justice Zik-Ikeorha-led panel on Sunday in Makurdi held that “the quality of witnesses called by the petitioners was not enough to strengthen the petition or sustain it.”
The panel also held that “the evidence adduced by the petitioners was weak and porous”, adding that the pleadings did not constitute evidence and as such dismissed them.
Consequently, Justice Zik-Ikeorha upheld the return of Senator Moro as the lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District.
Reacting to the verdict, Senator Moro’s counsel, Rafael Adakole, said the tribunal has affirmed the voice of the majority in the constituency.
