
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI on Thursday, June 5, foiled a terrorist attack on its personnel in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area, and Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Areas of Borno State.
A statement by the Nigerian Army said scores of insurgents were killed during the gun duel between troops and the terrorists.
The Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Reuben Kovanggiya said the insurgents tried to invade the Buratai location of the troops in the early hours of Thursday.
Kovanggiya said the insurgents in a deceitful manner infiltrated the troops’ location from several approaches.
According to him, a gunfire ensued while the air component of Operation Hadin Kai gave their support leading to a massive onslaught on the terrorists.
He also said that following the incident, a cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the terrorists.
In the same vein, the terrorists’ attempt to attack troops in Mallam Fatori was foiled.
Kovanggiya said the military marched the insurgents with superior firepower and pursued them into different locations.
He noted that several members of the terrorist group were killed while those who managed to escape the onslaught fled with different degrees of injuries.
Some of the recoveries made by the troops in both incidents include AK-47 ruffles, Rocket Propeller Guns, and general-purpose machine guns among many other kinds of weapons.
