
Thirteen suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) have been arrested by some troops in Delta State.
The suspects were arrested between July 26 and August 1, 2025, by troops of the 63 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force South South, Operation Delta Safe.
Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Asaba said the arrests were made during a raid conducted at the Abacha Camp and Fulani Camp areas in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta.
According to Rijau, the move against the suspects stemmed from intelligence reports gathered across the area.
He said the suspects have since been handed over to the 63 Military Intelligence Regiment for profiling.
“After the profiling, four of the suspects, Hossanah John, Obassey Maduabichi, Nwamini Nduka, and Aguyi Uchenna were confirmed to be IPOB/ESN collaborators.
“The other nine were found to have no links to the proscribed group and will be released to their families on sureties” Rijau said.
In addition, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, the commander of the 63 Brigade and Sector 1 Joint Task Force commended the troops for their resilience nd efforts towards ridding the state of criminals.
He restated the Army’s committment to ensuring peace and safety for all Delta residents and their property.
