Two bandits have been killed and 1,000 stolen cows recovered in Taraba State by troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE, working together with Operation SAFE HAVEN following a tipoff.
This was made known in a statement released on Friday by Captain Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations.
According to Captain Oni, the bandits—riding about 30 motorcycles—crossed from Plateau State into Taraba, where they attacked a Fulani settlement near Jebjeb Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.
“Troops of 6 Brigade, in conjunction with their counterparts from Operation SAFE HAVEN deployed in Kampani area of Wase LGA, Plateau State, mobilized and projected forces toward Komodoro village in Karim Lamido LGA. Upon contact, the bandits who had already fled across the river boundary into Daji Madam Forest in Plateau State, were engaged in a fierce firefight,” he said.
During the gun battle, two bandits were killed and about 1,000 rustled cows were recovered. The cows were then taken to safety and returned to the Jebjeb community.
Captain Oni also said that arrangements were being made to properly identify the cows and return them to their rightful owners.
He added that the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the quick response and cooperation between the troops.
