Troops rescue 13 kidnap victims after fierce gun battle in Kaduna

In a successful operation, troops from Sector 4 of Operation Whirl Punch, a Nigerian Army unit, have rescued 13 kidnap victims from a bandits’ den in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The operation, which took place in the Chigulu village area, was initiated following credible intelligence reports about the movement of hostages.

According to Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the military engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight at their camp, forcing them to flee into the dense forest, abandoning the hostages.

“The swift response of our troops led to the rescue of six men and seven women,” said Aruwan. He also disclosed that the army destroyed the camp and recovered several items, including an AK-47 rifle, locally-made weapons, 87 rounds of ammunition, and the sum of N192,220.

The rescued victims were safely transported to a military facility for medical evaluation and debriefing before being reunited with their families.

Governor Uba Sani expressed his satisfaction with the operation, praising Major General Mariyenso Saraso, Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, for leading the successful mission.

“This swift and decisive action is a testament to the capability and dedication of our security forces,” Sani stated.

The Nigerian Army remains committed to securing Kaduna and combating the ongoing threat of banditry in the region.
