Twitter needs to meet two more conditions – FG

The Federal Government has said that Twitter only needed to fulfil two more conditions for its ban to be lifted in Nigeria.

The comment was made by Information, Culture and Tourism Minister, Lai Mohammed who insisted that Twitter had to meet the 12 given conditions, in which it had only met 10, for its ban to be lifted.

Mohammed, however, assured that the banning of the platform had nothing to do with issues surrounding President Muhammadu Buhari. The minister dismissed the rumour while responding to a question from a participant at Nigeria International Partnership Forum in Paris.

“I want to categorically say that Twitter was not banned by Nigeria. It was only suspended. So, Twitter was never banned, it was suspended,” said Mohammed in French, per The Nation’s translation.

“Also, the suspension has nothing to do with President Muhammadu Buhari. The correspondence between us and Twitter has reached an advanced stage. I want to say that the correspondences and the exchanges have been fruitful.

“But we have a few more issues to resolve. Out of about 12 conditions, Twitter has been able to meet 10. Very soon, all issues will be resolved in a way that it will be good for both our country and Twitter.”

Meanwhile, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has returned to Twitter after a period of hiatus to mock Buhari’s ban on the platform, saying: “VPN? Nope……outside Nigeria for a couple of days, so can tweet for the time being….@dexxybaba,” El-Rufai replied to a user.
