David Hundeyin, a popular Nigerian investigative journalist, has had his Twitter account temporarily suspended for allegedly violating the social media platform’s private information and media policy.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the suspension comes after he posted the personal information of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday, alleging that the political figure holds dual citizenship in Nigeria and Guinea.
Hundeyin, a supporter of Peter Obi, claimed that Tinubu may have committed perjury, sparking a social media frenzy.
In response, Twitter locked his account and stated that it was due to the “posting of private information” without the subject’s permission.
According to Twitter’s Private information and media policy, “You may not publish or post other people’s private information without their express authorization and permission. We also prohibit threatening to expose private information or incentivizing others to do so”.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has defended Tinubu against the allegations, stating that the country’s constitution permits dual citizenship.
