The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspects involved in the illicit trade of counterfeit US dollar notes in Abuja.
The individuals, identified as Abdullahi Yahaya from Nasarawa State and Gold Ebere of Jabi, were arrested at Tin Can Resort Garden in the Jabi area of the FCT.
According to Commissioner of Police Benneth Igweh, the suspects were found in possession of 36 bundles of fake $100 US dollar notes.
During interrogation, they confessed to being part of an eight-member gang specializing in the interstate sale of counterfeit dollars.
The gang allegedly managed to distribute fake notes to unsuspecting residents of the FCT before their eventual arrest.
Igweh further stated that the arrested individuals are cooperating with the police in providing information that could lead to the apprehension of the remaining members of the gang who are currently at large.
He said the FCT Police Command is determined to curb such criminal activities and protect residents from financial scams.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may threaten the security and financial well-being of the community.
