The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation into a bomb explosion that killed two men and injured two others at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council, on January 6, 2025.
According to the police, preliminary findings suggest that three men from Katsina visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and allegedly brought an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) with them.
Tragically, the device detonated on the school veranda while being tampered with, killing two of the visitors.
A third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment under police guard.
The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the explosion was caused by an IED, with remnants of the device recovered from the scene.
Mallam Adamu Ashimu, the school’s owner, has been taken into custody for questioning.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated: “Upon receiving a distress call from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, a team of police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, swiftly mobilized to the scene.
“The area was immediately cordoned off to protect residents and facilitate a thorough investigation.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or items that resemble explosive devices.
The police also issued a safety advisory, encouraging residents to stay alert, avoid touching suspicious objects, and work collaboratively to maintain a safe community.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace and security operatives need to do more by handling the suspects very well
