Two mobile police officers and a soldier were killed during combined counter-terrorism operations by the military and police in Borno State’s Abadam Local Council.
Three days earlier, Governor Babagana Zulum’s visit to Abadam and Malam Fatori was cut short by Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants.
Governor Zulum planned to repatriate over 50,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) who had taken sanctuary in Bosso, Niger Republic, next month.
Commander of the Borno Police Crack Squad CSP Mohammed Ibrahim said yesterday in Maiduguri that the joint clearing operation team came under heavy fire in the early hours of Wednesday.
“The gallant role played by our crack team helped in pushing back the terrorists. But we lost two of our MOPOL and a soldier during the gun battle with the terrorists which lasted for about one hour,” he said.
Ladi Bala, President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and security agents to put a stop to insecurity in the nation.
Ms Bala made the request at NAWOJ’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and National Security Summit in Lafia, Nasarawa State, with the topic of “National Interest Amidst Insecurity — Role of the Media”.
She also said that the high amount of violent crimes coordinated by bandits and agitators is very concerning and unacceptable.
