UK decides to halt Nigerian visitor visa applications

The British High Commission has announced that they will halt processing visitor visa applications from all nations on the red list, including Nigeria.

Not long ago, Nigeria was included on the red list due to recent Omicron variant cases. Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, also announced on Saturday that all international visitors to the UK will now be forced to do pre-departure COVID-19 testing. He adds that other than UK citizens, travelers have to do quarantine for ten days in hotels that are specifically appointed for quarantine.

“If you apply for a visit visa in a red list country and you meet the UK Immigration Rules, your application will be paused. You will not receive a decision on your visit visa application whilst red list travel restrictions remain in place,” according to the statement. “There are only very limited exemptions to travel and entry requirements for critical workers and medical and compassionate cases.”

Once visitors provided their biometrics at a Visa Application Centre (VAC), they won’t be able to obtain a reimbursement of their visa money. In addition, if the visitors who plan to visit England come from a red list nation, they will be denied entry even if they already have a valid visit visa.

Visitors have the option to withdraw from the procedure if they don’t want their visa application to be put on hold.

The UK confirmed, Nigeria will continue to be restricted in processing visitor visa applications until the travel ban has been lifted.
