The Northern Youth Assembly has informed President Bola Tinubu over what it described as uncontrollable crisis currently brewing in Kano State since the tribunal judgement.
Politics Nigeria reports that the governorship election petition tribunal had sacked NNPP’s Governor Abba Yusuf and declared APC’s Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the March 18 poll.
The youths urged President Tinubu not to be deceived by some persons within his government, who are bent on creating a crisis situation in Kano State.
The youths said such a crisis, if allowed to surface, would erode the goodwill Tinubu is having in the north.
The open letter, which was obtained by Guardian in Abuja, and jointly signed by the acting President, Dr. Ali Idris, and National Publicity Secretary, Adikwu Joshua, said the youth resolved to communicate to Tinubu through the media to avoid unnecessary protocol, considering the gravity of the situation and the urgency to draw his attention to the matter before it goes out of hand.
It read in part: “As you are fully aware, Kano is officially the most populous state in the country, with estimated 20 million people. It is also the heartbeat of the North, which many citizens of other states largely depend upon, for the viability of their economy.
“Kano has been stable politically since 2019 due to huge sacrifices of many individuals and organisations.”
According to the group, if the Nigerian democratic system should continue to operate on the basis of electoral injustice, undermining the best practices of democratic governance, in fairness to all parties, the repercussions would surely be devastating.
“The alleged conspiracy by some elements in government, deploying government machinery and influence to destroy Kano, the consequences would not end in Kano, as the repercussions would certainly create a multiplier negative effect in other states of the federation.
“Therefore, using politics to ignite the crisis in Kano, through the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, would surely metamorphose into a crisis, which would be difficult to control, based on the brewing tension.”
The youth, however, said there is no better time for Tinubu to act than now to save the situation, by cautioning his party members allegedly involved in political recklessness, as the risk is not worth trying.
