A former Senate President, David Mark has called on the people of Benue State to work together to prevent aggressors and killers from displacing them from their homes.
Mark also urged the people to ensure they unite against external aggressors who have killed hundreds and left several others displaced in communities in Idoma Land.
Speaking during the Idoma Nation Peace and Unity Symposium at the Ochidoma’s Palace in Otukpo, Mark said unity is a major factor in protecting Benue lands.
Represented by Ojotu Ojema, the former lawmaker said, “We must reach a point where an attack on Agatu is seen as an attack on Ado; an attack on Obi is seen as an attack on Ogbadibo; and an attack on Apa is seen as an attack on Ohimini.
“Only then can we effectively repel the external aggressors on a land-grabbing mission,” he said.
He further urged parents and guardians to ensure they instil respect in their children and wards, especially for traditional leaders and elders of their lands.
This call by the former lawmaker comes days after several residents of Benue State were slaughtered by some suspected armed herdsmen.
While security in the area is said to have been beefed up, several residents of the state have also abandoned their ancestral homes for fear of being attacked by the suspected herdsmen.
