Unknown gunmen abduct monarch, kill aide in Cross River

Some unknown gunmen have abducted Maurice Edet, a traditional ruler in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Politics Nigeria understands that Eder was forcefully taken away from his home by gunmen who invaded his residence on Sunday night.

It was gathered that an aide to the traditional ruler was shot dead in the process of the kidnapping.

A source in the community said that the monarch’s aide was killed for attempting to resist the kidnap of his principal.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident but said details were still sketchy as of press time.

In another development, Professor Patrick Egaga of the University of Calabar has been released by his abductors after 26 days in captivity.

Egaga, who is the university’s director of Servicom, was abducted in the institution’s staff quarters. The abductors demanded N50 million as ransom for his release.
